April 27, 2006 - Nintendo today announced the final name of their new console, codenamed the Revolution, which is due to be unveiled in May at E3. The name Wii, pronounced 'We', is intended to represent the fact that the console aims to be for everyone. Aside from making corny marketing puns easier ("Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other.", "Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else."), the name is also supposed to symbolize people gathering to play in addition to the console's unique controllers. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow
April 18, 2006 - Ubisoft, publishers of the wildly successful Ghost Recon series, announced today that they have reached an agreement with Bethesda Softworks (of Elder Scrolls fame) to release a new Pirates of the Caribbean game which is being developed by 7 Studios. The humorous action-adventure game will feature a storyline that closely follows that of the first film (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) but will be told from Jack Sparrow's point of view. The Return of Sega
April 13, 2006 - Inpact virtuel (a French gaming site) posts that a direct source from Tokyo has confirmed Sega’s return to the console wars. This endeavor will be one of a portable nature, so this critic is naturally pessimistic about the new system’s chances (Game Gear, anyone?) considering Nintendo’s stranglehold on the handheld market. Never one to think twice about taking chances however, the new console is referred to as the “Sega Hedgehog” and according to Virtuel, Sega has scheduled its release at the end of ’07. Playstation 3: Just how much are gamers willing to pay?
April 6, 2006 - I've often wondered how so many people could manage to spend so much money on so many games and systems - many of which they play or use only a small number of times. Then I realize that I, too, have been guilty of this. Too often the cry for a new system has bellowed up from within me. Too recently have I felt the urge to buy an XBox 360 console. Increased Number of Adult Gamers
March 5, 2006 - If asked what the age of an average gamer is, most people would quickly say somewhere from 12-22. However, this is not the case. Just last year, in fact, the average age of gamers rose to 30 from 28, according to Peter D. Hart Research Associates. The Entertainment Software Association released a survey in January which found that 35% of the 500 parents with children age 2-17 played computer or video games.
